"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"

The mother of Kansas City Chief NFL lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif said she taught her kids at a young age that dreams don't mean anything if you don't follow up on them and try to make them happen.

What dreams came true for Laurent? While he has many accomplishments as a professional athlete, he also has the distinction of becoming the first medical doctor to ever play in the NFL.

Who are the biggest influences in your life? In Laurent's case, he said it was his mom. But how about you? Who pushes you to be better?  Is it your parents? Is it a relative?  A teacher or coach? Someone you have read about or studied?

Regardless of who serves as your biggest influence, there are certain factors like sacrifice, service, humility, dedication, and hard work that make the biggest difference between accomplishment and falling short.

It's never to early to think about what you want to be and how you plan to get there!

"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"

Longtime professional golfer Fred Couples was quoted in Golf Digest about the opportunities golf has afforded him. It's a great perspective from a man who is very successful and appreciative. And even if you have never heard of him, his message is worth remembering.

"Even if you aren't having an extra good-bad day, always count your blessings. Be thankful you're able to be out on a beautiful course; most people in the world don't have that opportunity."  Why not make the most of every day and make it enjoyable?

Being a high school student-athlete is truly a privilege and a great opportunity. Whether you are a star, starter, or substitute, be thankful for the moments of playing and participating in your sport every day.

Before you know it you will be a graduating senior and your time will be gone, but hopefully the experience will never be forgotten!

Learning from past experiences is invaluable when it comes to growth and improvement in your sports.

According to Sports Illustrated, one of this year's top NFL players, quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, learned a valuable lesson during his freshman season at Texas Tech.

His college coach told the story of his first college game when he fumbled, then threw an interception--on the same play, after entering the game when the starter was injured. He admitted later that he was unprepared because of his poor practice habits. From that day forward he made preparation for football the centerpiece of his life.

More times than not, it's what you learn from a negative experience or tough loss that makes you determined to improve and become better!
