IHSAA Guidelines for School-Sponsored Camps
Summer 2000
In accordance with the adoption of IHSAA By-law C-15-3.3 b, the following guidelines are in place for school sponsored camps:
- All school sponsored camps must be held during the summer and conclude prior to Monday of Week 4 (July 24, 2000).
- Camps may not exceed six days, Monday through Saturday of the camp week.
- Attendance is limited to those students who have enrolled in the school sponsoring the camp.
- The maximum amount of time for a school-sponsored camp in any one day is four consecutive hours of activity. Example: 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
- The daily routine is limited to intra-camp practices, contests, and instruction. One scrimmage against students from another school is permitted so long as the total time (including travel) is within the four-hour maximum time allotment.
- Attendance and participation are voluntary and must not be required by school coaches as a condition for membership on a team.
- Member school coaching staff may instruct players during the camp.
- Instructors who are not members of the school coaching staff may be used.
- Not all sports are conducive to a scrimmage with another school. For instance, football cannot have a full squad contact scrimmage. If a football scrimmage is conducted, it must be 7 on 7, using only the player equipment specified below with no full contact.
- Equipment and activity limitations in the sport of football:
- Only shoes, helmet, shoulder pads, and mouthpieces may be worn as protective equipment.
- No full contact or tackling is permitted.
- Sleds and other instructional aids may be used.
