Softball State Tournament Pairings Released
Three hundred seventy-one (371) teams were drawn and placed into brackets this morning for the start of the 29th Annual IHSAA Softball State Tournament Series.
Sectional action runs May 20-25 with the 64 survivors moving into a one-game regional round on Tuesday, May 28. From there, 32 teams will square off in a four-team semi-state on Saturday, June 1, with the four state championship games scheduled for Saturday, June 8 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Among the top-ranked teams in the most recent poll from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA), Class 4A No. 1 Center Grove begins its tournament run at home against Franklin Central in Sectional 13. Class 3A No. 1 Mishawaka Marian will face New Prairie in the Sectional 19 opening game hosted by South Bend St. Joseph. In 2A, top-ranked Rochester will host North Newton in the Sectional 34 opener. And Class A’s top-ranked Lakewood Park Christian, the defending state champion, will host Hamilton in the first game of Sectional 52.
Among the other defending state champions, Plainfield will take on host Martinsville in 4A Sectional 12, Class 3A champion Andrean drew Rensselaer Central in Sectional 18 at Kankakee Valley and two-time defending 2A champion South Putnam will face Cloverdale in Sectional 44 at Cascade.
Playing schedules are included in the brackets linked below but due to possible weather postponements and other conflicts, it is advised to check with the host school for precise schedules.

Notables
About the Draw
To conduct the random drawing for the softball state tournament, the IHSAA places ping-pong balls representing each school in a given sectional into a lottery-style air mix machine. A motorized fan in the bottom of the machine blows the balls around the inside of the transparent container and air then forces each ball up through a tube in random order. For example, the first ball retrieved from the machine will be the visiting team in game one with the second ball representing the home team in game one. The third ball to come out is the visitor in game two and the fourth ball the home team in game two. That same method is followed through all 64 sectionals and eight semi-states.

About the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. (IHSAA)
Founded in 1903, the purpose of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. (IHSAA) is to encourage, regulate and give direction to wholesome amateur interschool athletic competition between its 410 member schools. The Association provides state championship tournament series in 20 sports, 10 for girls and 10 for boys. Approximately 160,000 student athletes participate in IHSAA sports on an annual basis.
