THE 94th IHSAA

BOYS STATE BASKETBALLTOURNAMENT

 

A field of 383 teams will begin play at 64 sectional sites March 2 in the 2004 IHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament Series. Sectional play will continue on March 5 and 6, with regional play scheduled for March 13, semi-state action on March 20  and the state finals at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday,  March 27.

 

The defending state champions are: Lafayette Central Catholic (A); Cass (2A); Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (3A); and Pike (4A).

 

State Finals play will begin with Class A at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A title game.

Two Sectionals Will Play First-Round Games at Multiple Sites

For the Michigan City and East Chicago Central sectionals, the host school for the first round was determined by the draw. At that site, the second-named team in each half of the bracket will be the host team in the two first-round games. At all 64 sectionals, the semifinals and championship games will be played at the center school site as listed in bold.

 

Formats

5-Team Fields

Will play one first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two semifinals games on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The team drawing the first-round bye will play the Tuesday night winner in the second semifinal game on Friday.

 

6-Team Fields

Will play two first-round games on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinals on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The two teams drawing first-round byes will play in the second semifinal game on Friday.

 

7-Team Fields

Will play 1 first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two games on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinal games on Friday at 6 p.m. and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
