381 SCHOOLS DRAWN

FOR 88^TH STATE TOURNAMENT

A field of 381 teams will begin play March 3 in the 88th Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament Series. For the first time, champions will be crowned in four classes on March 28 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. The four class champions will move on to the inaugural Tournament of Champions April 3 and 4 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

Sectional play is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, March 7. The 64 sectional winners -- 16 in each of the four classes -- will advance to a one-game regional on Friday, March 13 at 32 sites across the state.

The 32 regional champions -- eight in each of four classes -- will advance to semi-state competition on March 21. There will eight semi-states -- two in each of the four classes. At each semi-state site, two first-round games will be played the morning of March 21, followed by the semi-state championship game that night. The eight semi-state champions -- two in each of the four classes -- will advance to the state finals on March 28 at the RCA Dome.

At the state finals, there will be a championship game in each of the four classes, beginning with Class A at 11 a.m. and followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A championship game.

Those four class champions will play April 3 and 4 in the Tournament of Champions. Conducted by blind draw, the Tournament of Champions pairings have the Class 2A winner meeting the Class A winner in the opening game, followed by the Class 4A winner against the Class 3A winner. The first-round winners will return the following night to play in the championship game.

7-Team Sectionals (9 sites: Calumet, East Chicago, Frankfort, Fremont, Perry Meridian, Scottsburg, Southridge, Triton, White River Valley) -- Will play one first-round game at 7 p.m. March 3; two first-round games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 4. The seventh team listed drew a first-round bye and will play against the March 3 winner at 6 p.m., March 6.

6-Team Sectionals (40 sites) -- Will play two first-round games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 3. The fifth and sixth teams listed will play each other in the first game of the semifinals on March 6.

5-Team Sectionals (15 sites: Alexandria, Attica, Bellmont, Castle, Elkhart Central, Greensburg, Lafayette Jefferson, Lawrenceburg, Milan, North Montgomery, Orleans, Paoli, Southwestern (Shelbyville), Tecumseh, West Vigo) -- Will play one first-round game at 7 p.m. March 3; two semifinal-round games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 6.
