The North Central doubles team of junior Karin Agness and freshman Hillary Friedman claimed the state title with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Delta juniors Sarah Peckinpaugh and Ashli Smith in the 11^th Annual IHSAA Doubles State Finals on Saturday at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

The win, their 11^th straight in the tournament, also capped a perfect season as the Panthers' No. 1 doubles team finished 30-0. Last weekend, they helped North Central to a third place finish in the state team competition.

They also became the fourth team from North Central to wear the state crown (1977, 1993 and 1997). The victory was especially sweet for Agness, who joins her sister, Christy as a state champion. Christy Agness teamed with Laura Waggoner to win the tournament in 1997.

Agness and Friedman, advanced to the championship round as a result of their 6-4, 6-1 decision over Warsaw seniors Kara Kesler and Amber Barrett in the semifinals.

Peckinpaugh and Smith, who suffered their first loss of the year to finish 20-1, earned their spot in the final match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over senior Audra Mattingly and freshman Jeanne Hartley of Jasper.

Mattingly and Hartley finished 31-4 following their 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 6-2 consolation victory over Kesler and Barrett. The Warsaw team finished its year 27-5.
