Park Tudor's Katie Martzolf concluded her sweep through three opponents and captured her second consecutive singles title at the 18^th Annual IHSAA Girls Individual Tennis State Finals on Saturday at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Not only was it the second straight state championship for Martzolf, but she defeated a familiar opponent to win it in Marion senior Julie Beekman by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) count. The two also squared off in last year's finale with Martzolf claiming a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

For Martzolf, it was her second consecutive unbeaten season at 27-0 after going 20-0 in 1998. The sophomore earned her way into the title match by defeating Penn senior Melissa Woods in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-3.

For Beekman, it was the third straight year she finished as the state runner-up. She fell to Perry Meridian's Erika Quebe in the 1997 championship. Beekman finished 26-1 this season including a three-year run of 73-3. All three losses came in the state championship match. She defeated Lawrence Central senior Haley Heathman, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals to advance.

In the consolation round, Woods completed a 19-2 season with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Heathman, who finished at 23-6. Woods had competed in the 1997 state finals falling in the semifinal round.
