PENN CAPTURES
GIRLS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The Penn Kingsmen,
under head coach Jim Garrett, picked up their second girls golf state
championship on Saturday, October 5, at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course in
Franklin, firing rounds of 335-322 (657).
Penn was also the state champ in girls golf in
1994, with Terry Tulchinsky at the helm, ending with
a 685 total at the Golf Club of Prestwick.
Last year’s defending champs, Western,
finished second, six strokes off the pace with a 663 (347-316). Noblesville finished in the number-three spot
again, with Lafayette Jefferson and Hamilton Southeastern rounding out the
top-five.
Noblesville’s Sally Shonk
was named mental attitude award winner. Shonk had rounds of 75-74 (149) for the Lady Millers, to
finished second to Katie Tewell of Center Grove who
was the tournament medalist with rounds of 74-72 (146).
