ONE CHANGE AMONG TOP TEAMS IN GIRLS BASKETBALL

For the week ending December 9, 2002, there was one change among the teams’ claiming the number-one position in the four classifications in girls basketball.  That occurred in Class 2A where Southwestern (Hanover) dropped its first game of the season to Louisville (KY) Mercy High School, 86-70, on December 2.  That defeat allowed Heritage Christian (5-1), despite a loss to Brebeuf Jesuit, to move in the leadership role in that class.

Elsewhere, Kokomo (6-0) stays atop the field in 4A.  Alexandria (7-0) is still number-one in 3A.  North Vermillion (7-0) is the leader in class A.

MILESTONES

Senior Stacy Stevens from Culver Community scored her 1500th career point against Argos on November 25th.

On December 7, senior Amanda Norris of Shenandoah scored her 1000th point as a Lady Raider in a contest with Wapahani.  She becomes the third Shenandoah player to reach that milestone, along with Kelly Troxell and Angie Becker.  Amanda needs 225 points to break the Shenandoah scoring mark, currently held by Troxell.

Junior guard Bianca Haverstock of Crawford County topped the 1,000 point mark for her career with a 16-point effort versus Borden on November 30.  She is also the Wolfpack’s all-time leading girls scorer.

Senior guard Rachel Dixon of South Central broke the school's single-game scoring record on Dec. 7 in a win over Crothersville. Dixon hit seven three- pointers en route to a 43-point afternoon to break the old mark of 40, held by Becky Bruner.

Kristoff Kendrick of Lafayette Central Catholic surpassed the 1,000-point career mark in the Knights’ victory over Attica on December 6.

IHSAA OVERTIME

Roland Inskeep, who retired in 1994 after 25 years as athletic director of North Central (Indpls.) High School, is one of eight current or former high school athletic administrators to be awarded NFHS Citations form the National Federation of State High School Associations on December 16 in San Antonio, Texas, at the 33rd annual National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics.

Also at the meeting, eleven individuals who have made outstanding contributions to interscholastic athletics have been named recipients of the 2002 Distinguished Service Awards given by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).  Included among that group is Priscilla Dillow, former athletic director/assistant principal, Ben Davis High School.  Those individuals will be honored on December 17.

Mark Schoeff, the first-ever athletic director at Fort Wayne Northrop when the school opened in 1971, passed away on November 28.
