While chasing an unprecedented fourth state football championship, Class 5A Warren Central will attempt to tie another remarkable tournament record in semi-state action this Saturday.
A win at Columbus North on Friday night would be the Warriors 23rd consecutive post-season victory which would tie them with Roncalli (2002-05) for the longest post-season winning streak in IHSAA football tournament history. Currently, the Warriors are tied with Penn (1995-98) and Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (2001-04) for second on the all-time list. It would also tie them for the most consecutive semi-state championships with Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (1999-2002) and Roncalli (2002-05).
The Warren Central-Columbus North game is one of 10 contests set for this weekend in the 34th Annual State Tournament Series with the winners earning a berth in the state finals at the RCA Dome over Thanksgiving weekend.
Jimtown (2A) and Sheridan (A) are also one victory away from
returning to the Dome to defend the respective titles they won a year ago. Both
have won 10 straight tournament games heading into this weekend. Jimtown will
host Harding, while
Another team that ended a long regional drought was North
Putnam. The Cougars ended a 16-year spell with their 23-18 victory against
