Class 2A Game
Quotes
Evansville Mater Dei Coach
Mike Goebel
"The wheels came off
late but I still think we gave a very gutsy effort tonight. This was a great
game and my kids really gave it all they had."
"Fort Wayne Luers was pretty dominant in the first half tonight. (Fort
Wayne Bishop Luers defensive) line was a little
bigger than ours and they did a good job getting to (quarterback) Jake
(Schiff)."
"We knew it would be
an outstanding game and all I can really say is that they played a better game
tonight, but that wont erase the tremendous state tournament ride weve
had."
"We have nothing to be
ashamed of. We just came up a little short against a good football team that
was extremely hungry tonight."
"We are losing a lot
due to a severe case of graduation, but we definitely hope to be back."
Mater Dei quarterback Jake
Schiff
"They (Bishop Luers linemen) were not only big but quick and it seemed
like they were getting in the backfield even before I got the snap off."
(On setting records)
"Truthfully, the records really belong to my teammates. Its not like they
dont mean something to me but they deserve the records too. I can tell you
this much, Id be happy to trade in all the records tonight for a state
championship."
"Its been an honor to
play for Coach Goebel and my teammates the last four years. I couldnt ask for
a better group of guys to be around on and off the football field."
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Coach Matt Lindsay
"This might go down as
one of our greatest and proudest moments ever. I just didnt think that our
kids were going to be denied tonight."
(On his son, quarterback
Kyle Lindsay) "Hes a great kid who doesnt take a backseat to anyone. All
I can say is that hes been the heart and soul of our football team and I
couldnt be prouder of his accomplishments as a coach and parent."
"This is definitely
the most sweetest of all and its just really hard to
put into words how much this victory means to us."
"Its been a great run
this season. For our nine seniors to finish their careers this way its
absolutely great. This team has done a lot for football at Luers
and for the city of
"I think we beat them
on the line of scrimmage tonight and we knew that was one of the keys coming
in. The way they beat us last year is the same way we beat them this
year."
(On Jake Schiff)
"Schiff is just a great kid and a great player. We knew we couldnt stop
his passing ability so we really focused on breaking down their line and
putting a lot of pressure on him."
Bishop Luers
quarterback Kyle Lindsay
"Ive learned over my
four year career that I wouldnt be the player that I am today without my dad
(Coach Matt Lindsay) pushing me."
"We had a few big pass
plays in the first quarter, which set the tone for the whole game and I felt
our ability to establish to running game early was definitely one of the keys
to our victory."
