Phil N.
Eskew Mental Attitude Award through 2007-08
The IHSAA Executive Committee awards the Phil N. Eskew
Mental Attitude Award to an outstanding senior participant in the Football
State Finals of each classification. The award is named in honor of the late
Phil N. Eskew, third commissioner of the IHSAA, who guided the Association from
1962 to 1976. Under his direction, the IHSAA football tournament was initiated
in 1973. The recipients of this award, nominated by their principal and coach,
must excel in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in
football. Farm Bureau Insurance, IHSAA corporate partner, awards a $1,000
scholarship to the school in the name of the recipient.
