NORTH CENTRAL ROLLS TO
SECOND STRAIGHT IHSAA CHAMPIONSHIP!
North Central

North
Central opened the finals with a record-setting performance in the 200-yard medley
relay. The Panthers’ Michael
Christy, Riley Boulden, Peter Jameson, and Sean White combined for a 1:32.95
time, eclipsing the standard of 1:33.05 by
The
Panthers closed the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay for the second year
in a row. The foursome of Drew Sease,
Ken Minturn, Christy, and Jameson just missed the meet record with a winning
time of 3:04.24.
Jameson finished
the day with four blue ribbons. He
recorded a dominating performance in the 200 freestyle, winning in
1:37.11. He broke the meet record in
Friday’s prelims with a 1:37.02 effort, beating the previous mark of
1:37.36 by Jeff Lee of
Christy,
who matched Jameson with four blue ribbons, prevailed in the 200 individual medley with a 1:49.13 effort to earn his second state
championship in that event. He also won
in 2004 as a freshman. Christy added the
100 backstroke title later in the meet with a victorious time of 49.86.
North
Central senior Drew Sease dominated the 500 freestyle, winning in 4:30.47 to
add to his 200 medley relay crown.

Greencastle’s Andrew Bretscher wins Herman F. Keller Mental Attitude Award
Greencastle
senior Andrew Bretscher is the 2006 recipient of the
Herman F. Keller Mental Attitude Award as selected by members of the IHSAA
Executive Committee.
Bretscher
finished second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle at the State
Finals, missing a blue ribbon in the 50 by .02. The two-time State Finals participant holds
eight school records (six individual), earning All-America honors in the 200
individual medley and 100 butterfly in 2005. The two-time USA Junior National Qualifier
was undefeated this season until the State Finals. He also has run cross country all four years
at Greencastle.
Bretscher ranks 19th in his senior
class of 134 with a 3.66 cumulative grade point average.
“Andrew
is outstanding in every area,” said Greencastle principal Dr. Susan D. Phillips. “He is an academic leader and a
positive role model for other students through his poise and
disposition.”
Bretscher
has been active in Latin Club and he has participated in Spell Bowl, Chess
Club, Art Club, Martin Luther King Art Show, and Graduation Art Show.
Bretscher,
the son of Paul and Mary Bretscher, plans to study
engineering. He has received an
appointment to the Air Force Academy and has been accepted to Purdue and
Indiana
Farm Bureau Insurance, the IHSAA’s proud

The
recipient of this award, who was nominated by his principal and coach, must
excel in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in
swimming and diving.
The award,
renamed in 1974, honors former IHSAA assistant commissioner Herman F. Keller,
who served the association from 1961-73.
