This season marks an important milestone in our history as we recognize the 100th anniversary of the Indiana high school basketball championships.
The IHSAA, with the help of our partners at Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and the Indiana Pacers, invites fans to join in our statewide “100 Years IN 100 Days” celebration filled with special events to commemorate a century of Hoosier Hysteria. This 100-day celebration tipped off on December 18th and includes:
- A press conference featuring Governor Mitch Daniels at the State Capitol on December 18 that announced the “100 Years IN 100 Days Celebration of Hoosier Hysteria”;
- A mobile Memorabilia Tour showcasing articles, artifacts and highlights from Indiana’s rich basketball history traveling to high schools and Simon Malls across the state from January to March;
- An Official “100 Years IN 100 Days” website featuring a decade-by-decade photo scrapbook, sportswriter memories, Tour information, videos and the latest high school basketball news;
- A commemorative Hoosier Hysteria court decal adorning a majority of high school gym floors throughout the state;
- A media campaign spreading Hoosier Hysteria fever with radio advertisements, collector’s item posters and even special billboards around central Indiana;
- A 100th anniversary “Celebration Parade” in downtown Indianapolis between sessions of the 100th annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Championship Game at Conseco Fieldhouse on March 27th
Whether the Miracle of Milan in ‘54, Crispus Attucks’ rise to the top in ’55, Kokomo’s 68-66 overtime win over Manual in ’61 or Bedford North Lawrence’s state championship victory in front of a record crowd in ‘90, high school basketball has remained central to our core since Crawfordsville captured the first state title in 1911. We all share fond memories of “the game” Indiana made great.
We invite all schools, organizations, officials and citizens to help honor this special occasion and add to the festivities by coming with ways your community can celebrate in its own special way. Your involvement with this effort is important, encouraged and certainly appreciated.
We hope to see you and your team at the state tournament in the spring and extend best wishes for a successful and injury-free season. Please feel free to contact us at info@100N100.net with any questions.
