SOFTBALL STATE TOURNEY PAIRINGS ANNOUNCED
Three hundred seventy-six (376) teams were placed into brackets this morning, 11 days from the start of the 27th Annual IHSAA Softball State Tournament Series.
Sectional action runs May 23-28 with the 64 survivors moving into a one-game regional round on Tuesday, May 31. From there, 32 teams will square off in a four-team semi-state on Saturday, June 4 with the four state championship games scheduled for Saturday, June 11 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Among the top-ranked teams in the most recent poll from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, Class 4A No. 1 Carmel begins its tournament run against Westfield in the Sectional 8 bye game at Hamilton Southeastern. In 3A, top-ranked and defending state champ Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger drew New Haven in the Sectional 23 opener at Leo. Class 2A No. 1 South Putnam will travel to face Tri-West Hendricks in Sectional 46. And Class A’s top-ranked and defending state champion Riverton Parke will take on Turkey Run at home in Sectional 54.
Among the other defending state champions, Class 4A’s Hamilton Southeastern hosts Noblesville in Sectional 8 and Wheeler, last year’s 2A winner, drew the bye in Sectional 33 and will face the Hammond Bishop Noll-River Forest winner.
Daily schedules for each tournament site will be announced by the host schools and added to the IHSAA website as they become available. Because of possible weather postponements and other conflicts, it is advised to check with the host school for precise schedules.
