IHSAA Baseball State Tournament Brackets Announced
A field of 385 teams and 7,236 student-athletes will begin play next week as the pairings for the 47th Annual IHSAA Baseball State Tournament Series were drawn this morning in Indianapolis.
Sectional competition begins Wednesday, May 22, and continues through Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day), with the 64 champions advancing to a four-team regional on Saturday, June 1. Two semifinal games will be played early that day at each site with the two winners returning for a championship game that evening. The 16 regional winners will be assigned to four semi-state sites and play a single game on Saturday, June 8, with the winners moving into their respective state championship games.
This year’s four state championship games, scheduled for Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, will be played at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
Among the top-ranked teams in this week’s poll from the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA), Class 2A No. 1 Northfield will begin defense of last year’s state championship when it faces North Miami in Sectional 37 at Wabash. Frontier, the No. 1 team in Class A will meet first-time participant Faith Christian in Sectional 54 at Lafayette Central Catholic. Class 3A top-ranked Jasper will host Washington in the Sectional 31 opener and Floyd Central, the No. 1 team in Class 4A, will take on No. 10 New Albany in Sectional 15 at Bedford North Lawrence.
Among the other defending state champions, Lafayette Central Catholic, the four-time defending Class A winner and ranked No. 2 this week behind Frontier, drew Rossville in Sectional 54. Western, unranked in Class 3A, drew a bye in Sectional 20 at Peru and will meet the Twin Lakes-Maconaquah winner, and Lake Central, unranked in 4A, will meet Lowell in Sectional 1 at Munster.
Playing schedules are included in the brackets linked below but due to possible weather postponements and other conflicts, it is advised to check with the host school for precise schedules.

Notables
About the Draw
To conduct the random drawing for the baseball state tournament, the IHSAA places ping-pong balls representing each school in a given sectional into a lottery-style air mix machine. A motorized fan in the bottom of the machine blows the balls around the inside of the transparent container and air then forces each ball up through a tube in random order. For example, the first ball retrieved from the machine will be the visiting team in game one with the second ball representing the home team in game one. The third ball to come out is the visitor in game two and the fourth ball the home team in game two. That same method is followed through all 64 sectionals and 16 regionals.

About the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. (IHSAA)
Founded in 1903, the purpose of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. (IHSAA) is to encourage, regulate and give direction to wholesome amateur interschool athletic competition between its 410 member schools. The Association provides state championship tournament series in 20 sports, 10 for girls and 10 for boys. Approximately 160,000 student athletes participate in IHSAA sports on an annual basis.
