IHSAA News Release

GIRLS TENNIS STATE TOURNEY MATCHUPS ANNOUNCED
With sectional action set to begin this Wednesday, the IHSAA drew the matchups for the latter three levels of the 36th Annual Girls Tennis Team Tournament this morning in Indianapolis.

Sectional matches for the 311 teams run through Saturday at 64 sites with the survivors advancing to 16 regional tournaments. Those semifinal matches are set for Tuesday, May 25, and championships on Wednesday, May 26. The four semi-states will be played Saturday, May 29, and the state finals Friday, June 4, and Saturday, June 5, in Indianapolis.

Like the boys state tournament last fall, a new format will be used in this year’s semi-state and state finals rounds. As approved by the IHSAA Executive Committee last Aug. 5, four teams will continue to advance to four semi-state sites but the winner of each of the two matches will now advance to the following weekend’s state finals. Those eight remaining teams will square off in the Indianapolis-area in a Friday-Saturday format. Four quarterfinal matches scheduled for mid-afternoon on Friday will be followed by two semifinal matches on Saturday morning and the state championship match Saturday afternoon. The consolation match, which previously determined the third and fourth place teams, has been discontinued.

Sectional pairings, which will be drawn later today by the 64 host sites, will be posted to the girls tennis tournament page at www.ihsaa.org as they are reported.

Regional pairings in the individual tournament of singles and doubles players are also included below.
