NORTH CENTRAL’S ZEINASELLASSIE, COLUMBUS NORTH BOYS REPEAT
North Central junior Futsum Zeinasellassie and the Columbus North boys team both ran away with their respective competitions to repeat as state champions during the 65th Annual IHSAA Boys Cross Country State Final in Terre Haute.

Zeinasellassie kicked away from a large pack of runners with about 1,500 meters to go in the 5,000 meter race to win the individual title for the second year in a row in 15:16.6. He finished second as a freshman in 2008.

Jason Crist of Franklin Central emerged as the runner-up in a mad-dash to the finish among the second, third and fourth place runners. Crist was timed in 15:31.5, Brad Hess of Carroll (Fort Wayne) was third in 15:31.6 and Carmel’s Chris Walden was fourth in 15:32.3. Union County’s Tate Schienbein rounded out the top five in 15:36.1.

The team title marked the second consecutive trophy for Columbus North (94 points) and its fourth overall, all of which have come this decade (2002, 2003). Each has come with coach Rick Weinheimer directing the team.

Noblesville’s 170 points was good for the runner-up spot. Lawrence North finished third with 174, North Central of Indianapolis was fourth with 202 and Terre Haute North was fifth at 207.

Michael Sublette was the top finishing Bull Dog finishing ninth overall in 15:40.6. Teammates Andrew Diehn and Gabe Ocasio finished 19th (15:58.7) and 20th (16:00.5), respectively, and were followed by Christopher Kelsey in 43rd (16:20.1) and Andrew Beiriger in 50th (16:26.3).

LOGANSPORT’S OVERWAY NAMED MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD WINNER
Kyle Overway, a senior at Logansport High School, was named the winner of the Charles F. Maas Mental Attitude Award by the IHSAA Executive Committee.

Overway finished 18th overall in today’s meet after winning the sectional, regional and semi-state races during this year’s tournament.

Academically, he ranks first in his class and intends to study pre-med and biology in college.

He is the son of Craig and Laura Overway of Logansport, Ind.

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, the IHSAA’s corporate partner, presented Overway with a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship in his name was presented to Logansport High School.
