Elliott's Three Touchdowns Help Warren Central Complete Perfect Season
Warren Central kept its perfect record intact, both for the 2018 season and in the school’s state finals history, with a 27-7 victory over Carmel in the Class 6A championship game.
Coach Jayson West’s Warriors got three touchdowns from tailback Romeir Elliott (two rushing, one receiving) to finish 14-0 and claim the program’s ninth state title. Warren Central has made nine appearances in the championship round, dating back to 1984. The Warriors have now beaten Carmel four times in the title game.
Warren Central also becomes the first school in state history to finish unbeaten, state-championship seasons in boys basketball and football in the same calendar year.
The winners never trailed in the contest, taking the lead late in the first quarter on a 35-yard run by Elliott. The Warriors went up, 13-0, on its next possession as quarterback Jayden George hit Montrez Stanley for a 24-yard score.
Carmel cut the lead to 13-7 at halftime on a 9-yard pass from Gabe Quigley to Aidan Ellison. From there, the Greyhounds (11-3) had two drives into Warren Central territory with a chance to at least even the score, but the Warrior defense came up with interceptions both times.
Later in the third quarter, George hit Elliott for a 65-yard touchdown, before George directed a 12-play, 68-yard drive that burned nearly six minutes of the fourth quarter clock to ice the game. Elliott did the finishing honors on that drive, blasting in from 2 yards out. He finished with 25 rushes for 162 yards, giving him 2,980 yards for the season.
Coach John Hebert’s Carmel squad was seeking to avenge a 41-17 loss to WC earlier in the season. The Greyhounds were making their state-record tying 15th finals appearance, winning eight.

Carmel’s Beau Robbins earns Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award
At the conclusion of the state championship game, the IHSAA Executive Committee named Beau Robbins of Carmel High School as the winner of the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award in Class 6A Football.
Beau is a starting defensive lineman and team captain for Carmel and leads the team in tackles (67), tackles for a loss (17), and forced fumbles (3) this season and also ranks second in sacks (6) including 28 for his career. Beau is a three-year starter, was a member of the 2016 6A state championship team, and is a two-time all-conference selection (2017 & 2018). Beau is also a member of Carmel’s boys basketball team and track and field team.
Academically, Beau has achieved a 3.8 GPA and has been named Academic All-MIC and has also received Carmel High School’s Scholar Athlete Award. Beau has also been a mentor to young athletes in his community by participating in Carmel’s youth basketball and football camps.
Beau is the son of Todd and Anne Robbins of Carmel. He will attend Indiana University on a full football scholarship and will study business.
Each year the IHSAA Executive Committee selects a senior player who was nominated by his principal and coach and was determined to have best demonstrated mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability. The award is named in honor of the IHSAA’s third commissioner from 1962-76.
The Indianapolis Colts presented a $1,000 scholarship to Carmel High School in the name of Beau Robbins. The Colts have been the presenting sponsor of the entire football state tournament since 2009 and are sponsoring the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award.
