Fort Wayne Canterbury tops Evansville Mater Dei 3-0 to win Fourth State Title
Fort Wayne Canterbury scored three second half goals to win its fourth state title in a 3-0 win over Evansville Mater Dei at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis.

After a scoreless first half, Canterbury finally broke through with 28 minutes remaining as junior Cole Walker set up senior Adam Antalis for his 11th goal of the season. Two final goals by sophomore Britt Watts sealed the deal for the top-ranked Cavaliers against No. 2 Mater Dei.

Although Canterbury was in control of the pitch for most of the game, Mater Dei had its opportunities to score.  An early shot on goal by junior Austin Hoefling as well as another attempt on goal with 31 minutes remaining in the first half were both turned away by Canterbury’s goalie, Chase Walker. Canterbury countered that pressure with some of their own as sophomore Britt Watts attempted two shots on goal before the end of the half.

Under Coach Greg Mauch, Fort Wayne Canterbury ended their state title season with a record of 18-1-4. Mauch was also guiding the Cavaliers in the previous championship seasons of 1997, 1998 and 2001. Evansville Mater Dei, coached by Matt Settles, finished its year at 17-6-1 and its first appearance in the state finals.
