Columbus North Tops Warsaw 1-0 for First Soccer Title
Columbus North, the 2011 runner-up, scored an early goal and played solid defense to claim the Class 2A boys soccer state title at IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium. The win gave the Bull Dogs their first ever soccer state championship.

The only goal in what was a fast-paced match came in the ninth minute of the match from Columbus North Senior Brad Shaw. Shaw, the Bull Dogs’ leading goal scorer, was assisted by junior midfielder Keaton Voegerl on the play.

Both sides had opportunities to score but the game was clearly dominated by defense. Columbus North senior Chase Francouer recorded his sixth shutout of the season as the Bull Dogs allowed only 5 shots on goal. The Tigers were led by senior forward Diego Lopez who recorded 4 shots and 2 shots on goal.

Columbus North finished its championship season with a record of 17-1-4 under Coach Andy Glover while Warsaw, playing in their first state title match, finished 13-9-2 under the direction of Coach Scott Bauer.
