West Lafayette Tops Gibson Southern 2-0 for First Soccer Title
For the first time in both school histories, West Lafayette and Gibson Southern kicked off in the soccer state finals championship game at IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, West Lafayette senior forward Shelby Mann buried a pair of goals in the 45th and 46th minutes. Mann's two goals give her a team high 38 for the season and the Red Devils would out shoot Gibson Southern 14-7 en route to a 2-0 win for the school's first soccer state title. West Lafayette senior goalkeeper Emily Field recorded three saves, ensuring the shut out for her squad.

West Lafayette, coached by Aaron Blessing finished their championship run with a 15-7 record while Gibson Southern, led by coach Steve Jenkins ended 16-4-2.

Sylvia Adler of Gibson Southern Named Mental Attitude Award Winner
Sylvia Adler of Gibson Southern High School was named winner of the 2013 Mental Attitude Award for Girls Class A Soccer by members of the IHSAA Executive Committee.

A four-year starter for the Titans, Adler holds both career (99) and single-season (38) scoring records and has been selected to play in the annual Indiana North vs. South All-Star Challenge. Adler is a member of the yearbook staff, pep club, theatre club, and St. Maria Goretti youth group.

She is the daughter of Jeremy and Robyn Adler of Haubstadt.

The IHSAA Executive Committee presented a scholarship check for $1,000 to Gibson Southern High School in the name of Sylvia Adler. Since 1989, more than $800,000 in college scholarships have been presented to deserving high school students in Indiana.
