South Putnam Wins Second Consecutive State Championship
The No. 1 South Putnam Eagles (31-0) captured their second consecutive state championship with a 3-1 victory over the Adams Central Jets in the Class 2A state championship game at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

The win extended South Putnam’s streak to 56 consecutive games, dating back to the 2011 season. They became just the fourth team in tournament history to finish a perfect season, the first in the Class 2A tournament and the third to win back-to-back titles in any class.

Head coach Chris Jones’ Eagles got an early start with a double by Jenny Thompson (12) and a follow-up RBI double by Brooke Boetjer. The hit was Boetjer’s lone RBI of the day on two hits.  Kelsey Whitaker (11) and MaKenzie Trisler (10) also led the Eagles with one RBI a piece. Whitaker’s RBI came in the bottom of the third and was followed by Trisler’s in the sixth inning.

Junior Olivia Macklin led the way for Adams Central with two hits in three appearances at the plate. Seniors Allyssa Keller and Alexa Baller collected one hit each, with Baller also scoring Adams Central only run in the third inning.  Jenae Blackburn (12) also provided one hit and one RBI for head coach Cary Blake’s Jets.

Boetjer (22-0), who was recently named the Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year, got the win on the mound and finished with nine strikeouts in seven complete innings of work.

Adams Central wrapped up the year 20-13 and was making the school’s first appearance in a softball state championship game.
