Greenwood's Kawamoto, Evansville Memorial Partners Win Girls Tennis Crowns
Jackie Kawamoto of Greenwood and the Evansville Memorial doubles team of Macie Elliott and Brenna Wu claimed the respective singles and doubles state titles in the final matches of the IHSAA Girls Tennis Individual State Tournaments at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis.

The junior Kawamoto capped a perfect 28-0 season at No. 1 singles with a straight set victory over previously unbeaten Bailey Padgett of Carmel, 7-6 (5), 6-1 and became the first Greenwood player to win the state singles title. She helped lead Greenwood to its second consecutive state finals appearance last week in the team competition. Padgett, who was part of Carmel's team title a week ago, finished 23-1.

Senior classmates Macie Elliott and Brenna Wu emerged from the field of 11 doubles state finalist teams with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Park Tudor's Hannah Klapper and Ali Lebovits (20-5) in the final match. Elliott and Wu (23-0) dodged elimination in their Friday quarterfinal match when they rallied from a set down and a 5-2 deficit in the second to beat Indianapolis Cathedral's Caroline Combs and Meredith Goshell, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

For Elliott, she became the first girl and second individual to win a team title and also win the singles and doubles tournaments. She won the singles title in 2011 and played No. 1 singles for Evansville Memorial which won the overall team state championship in 2012. Brandon Gill of Park Tudor was the first to win all three in 2000.
