From 1975-1981, the state finals consisted of individuals representing various schools competing in a state singles tournament and doubles tournament. Those schools were credited with a championship match appearance if they had a singles player or doubles team competing in the championship match of their respective tournament. Beginning in 1982, the state tournament changed to its current format to include four full teams competing head-to-head for the state championship.
