A field of 379 schools drawn
for 26th state tournament
A field of 379 teams will begin play at 64 sectional sites Feb. 13 in the 2000 IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Series.
The defending state champions are Triton in Class A, Fort Wayne Luers in Class 2A, Indianapolis Cathedral in Class 3A and Ben Davis in Class 4A.
For the fourth year, champions will be crowned in four classes. The 2001 state finals will be played March 3, with Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis serving as the site for the first time. Conseco Fieldhouse will be the third home of the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals, joining Hinkle Fieldhouse (1976-1979 and 2000) and Market Square Arena (1980-1999).
Sectional play is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, February 17. The 64 sectional winners -- 16 in each of the four classes -- will advance to regional competition at 32 sites. The regional format calls for a single game on either Tuesday, Feb. 20 or Wednesday Feb. 21.
The 32 regional winners -- eight in each of four classes -- will advance to semi-state competition on Feb. 24. There will be eight semi-states -- two in each of the four classes. At each semi-state site, two first-round games will be played the morning of Feb. 26, followed by the semi-state championship game that night. The eight semi-state champions -- two in each of the four classes -- will advance to the state finals March 3 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
At the state finals, there will be a championship game in each of the four classes, beginning with Class A at 10:30 a.m. and followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A championship game.

5-Team Fields
Will play one first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two semifinals games on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The team drawing the first-round bye will play the Tuesday night winner in the second semifinal game on Friday.
6-Team Fields

Reserved tickets can be purchased by contacting the IHSAA at 317-846-6601 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. EST. Tickets will go on sale at the participating schools the week of the state finals. Contact participating schools for ticket distribution hours. Tickets also will be available during the week at the Conseco Fieldhouse ticket office. Any remaining tickets will be on sale on game day at Conseco Fieldhouse.
