64 girls basketball teams

advance to regional round

A field of 64 sectional champions -- including six schools that won their first sectional titles -- returns to action Tuesday and Wednesday for regional competition at 32 sites in the 26th Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament.

At each site, one regional championship game will be played. Eight regional champions will be crowned Tuesday (Feb. 20), with the remaining 24 on Wednesday (Feb. 21). The 32 regional champions will move on to semi-state competition Saturday (Feb. 24) at eight sites.

Four regional championship games as listed below will be played at neutral sites as arranged by the participating schools and the IHSAA office due to travel distance, gym size or facility scheduling conflicts.

The regional field includes 32 of the 64 regional champions from 2000. Ten of the 32 regional championship games are rematches. The champions from the odd-numbered sectionals are designated as the regional hosts. In 2000, the regional hosts were the champions of the even-numbered sectionals.
