A FIELD OF 381 SCHOOLS DRAWN FOR 28TH STATE TOURNAMENT

   A field of 381 teams will begin play at 64 sectional sites Tuesday, February 11th in the 2003 IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament Series. Sectional play will continue on February 14th and 15th, with regional play scheduled for February 22nd , semi-state action on March 1st and the state finals at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday,  March 8th.

 

   The defending state champions are: North Vermillion in Class A; Southwestern (Hanover) in Class 2A, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in Class 3A; and Terre Haute South in Class 4A. 

 

   State finals play will begin with Class A at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A title game.

5-Team Fields

Will play one first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two semifinals games on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The team drawing the first-round bye will play the Tuesday night winner in the second semifinal game on Friday.

6-Team Fields

Will play two first-round games on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinals on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The two teams drawing first-round byes will play in the second semifinal game on Friday.

7-Team Fields

Will play 1 first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two games on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinal games on Friday at 6 p.m. and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Home Team:     Throughout the tournament, the second-named team will be the home team.
