2004-05 IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament Pairings

 

A field of 383 teams will begin play at 64 sectional sites Tuesday, February 8 as the 30th Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament Series tips off. Sectional play will continue on February 11 and 12, with the regionals scheduled for February 19, the semi-states on February 26 and the state finals at Conseco Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 5.

 

At the state finals, there will be a championship game in each of the four classes, beginning with Class A at 10:30 a.m. and followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A championship game.

 

Among the defending state champions, host Tri-Central, received a bye into the semifinals against Southern Wells in Class A Sectional 54. In 2A, Rochester will open first round play against Winamac in Sectional 35 at Rensselaer Central. Brebeuf Jesuit will face home-standing Crawfordsville in the first round of Class 3A’s Sectional 25 and 4A North Central of Indianapolis will head to Sectional 9 at Hamilton Southeastern to square off against the home team in the opening round.

 

Member schools making their first appearances in the girls basketball state tournament include Elkhart Christian Academy, International School of Indiana and Restoration Christian, all in Class A. Indianapolis Howe Academy and Indianapolis Washington also will be participating for the first time since the 1995 tournament. Both are assigned to Class 3A.

One Sectional Will Play First-Round Games at Multiple Sites

For the East Chicago Central Sectional, the host school for the first round was determined by the draw. At that site, the second-named team in each half of the bracket will be the host team in the two first-round games. At all 64 sectionals, the semifinals and championship games will be played at the center school site as listed in bold.

 

Formats

5-Team Fields

Will play one first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m., two semifinals games on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The team drawing the first-round bye will play the Tuesday night winner in the second semifinal game on Friday.

 

6-Team Fields

Will play two first-round games on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. (except as noted), two semifinals on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Note: The two teams drawing first-round byes will play in the second semifinal game on Friday.

 

7-Team Fields

Will play one first-round game on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m., two games on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinals on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

 

8-Team Fields

Will play two first-round games on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m., two games on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., two semifinals on Friday beginning at 6 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
