New Albany Claims 73-56 Win Over Clinton Prairie
New Albany jumped to a 12-1 lead to start the game and led at every quarter stop on its way to a 73-56 victory over Clinton Prairie in the second semifinal game of the Tournament of Champions on Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Junior guard Abigail Scharlow poured in a career high 33 points and Kennitra Johnson added 22 points for New Albany, which moved to 27-0 for the year.
Clinton Prairie's Kourtney Mennen scored 33 points of her own to lead the way for the Class A champions. She finished the year with 783 points for a 28.6 average to finish third on this year's state scoring list. She also finished with the fifth-best single season scoring total ever and eighth on the state career scoring chart with 2,191 points. Clinton Prairie finished its year 25-3.
With the victory, New Albany, the Class 4A state champion, moves into Saturday's 4 p.m. title game against NorthWood.
