ANDREAN WINS
3A STATE TITLE
The Fighting 59ers of Andrean beat Boonville 2-0
in the Class 3A IHSAA State Finals at
The only
scoring of the day came in the top of the 4th inning -- Andrean’s Audrey Bickel hit a two run homerun over the
center field fence. Right before the blast, Alyssa Moesley
singled and eventually scored on the homer.
Andrean
freshman pitcher Moesley ties the 3A record for
fewest hits allowed in a state finals game. She boasts an 18-3 record on the
season, and held Boonville to no runs on two hits. Moesley
only had three strikeouts on the day and relied on the great Andrean defense behind her. Boonville pitcher Erika Taylor
suffers her first loss of the year. She allowed two runs on three hits, and
finishes the season with a 20-1 record.
Bickel, only
a freshman, ties the Class 3A record for homeruns with one and RBI’s with two
in the game. Bickel had just three homeruns coming into the contest.
Boonville
coached by 22nd year skipper Mike Wilson finishes the season with a
23-6 record. The 2006 Class 3A champions were unable to defend their title. Andrean coached by 13th year head coach Frank Podkul is no stranger to the state finals. He has taken Andrean to the state finals four times. Podkul
has led Andrean to a pair of state titles and one
runner-up performance.
