BURRIS WINS NINTH CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP
Perennial power Muncie

win. In game two, Burris used an 8-0 run
to take a 9-3 lead. After the Braves
narrowed the gap to 13-8, Burris countered with another 8-0 spurt to make it
21-8. In the final game, Burris took the
lead for good at 9-8 and never looked back.
Burris reached the final
with a three-game sweep of 2004 runner-up Clinton Central (33-5). Brownstown Central reached the final for the
fifth time with a 3-0 win over Adams Central (25-9) in the semifinals.
BURRIS’ KAMINSKY HONORED WITH MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD
Muncie Burris
senior middle attacker Lauren Kaminsky is the 2005 recipient of the IHSAA Class
2A Mental Attitude Award for volleyball.
Kaminsky becomes the ninth Burris player to win the award in the 34-year
history of the tournament.
Kaminsky helped coach Steve Shondell’s Owls to their record ninth straight
IHSAA championship and a 36-4 season record. Kaminsky started the past four years for four
state championship squads, earning all-state recognition last year. The versatile Kaminsky is also a two-time
regional qualifier and team MVP in track.
In the
classroom, Kaminsky is tied for first among her senior class with a perfect 4.0
grade point average. She has earned “Student
of the Year” recognition in biology and chemistry.
“Lauren is an
outstanding athlete and competitor who conducts
herself in a respectful manner on and off the court,” said Burris principal Jay
McGee. “She provides quiet leadership to
her team through her controlled, yet aggressive play and desire to do her best
in every game.”
Kaminsky, the
daughter of Len and Mary Kaminsky, will attend Xavier on a full volleyball
scholarship, majoring in business or communications.
Indiana Farm
Bureau Insurance, the IHSAA’s corporate partner, presented a scholarship check
for $1,000.00 to Muncie Burris High School in the name of Lauren Kaminsky.
