For all other rounds of the tournament, you must contact the host school to acquire the proper credentials.

GIRLS SWIMMING TOURNAMENT SET TO START

The 29th Annual Girls Swimming & Diving Tournament Series will begin on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 20 sites across the state.  For a listing of those sites and the participating schools, go to 2003 Girls Swimming Sectional Sites.

Sectional schedule:        Thursday, February 6     5:30 p.m.           Swimming Preliminaries

                                    Saturday, February 8     9:00 a.m.           Diving Preliminaries & Semifinals

2:00 p.m.           Consolation & Finals in all events

Admission:                    Session ticket:   $4.00,   Season ticket:    $6.00

Columbus North is the all-time leader in sectional victories with 23, including a title in their own sectional in 2002, their sixth consecutive sectional crown.  Anderson and Elkhart Central are tied for second in total sectionals won with 20, but the Indians last victory came in 1997 and the last title for the Blazers was 1994.  Go to Girls Swimming Sectional Champions for a complete school-by-school listing of former sectional winners.  For total sectional champs, log on to  Girls Swimming Total Sectional Titles

Top-ranked and defending state champ Carmel will be seeking its 19th overall sectional win and seventh in a row.

GIRLS SWIMMING MEDIA CREDENTIALS

Media credentials for the sectionals and diving regionals must be obtained through the host school.  The 2002-03 IHSAA State Finals Media Credential will be in use for the state tournament at the Natatorium on February 14-15.  If you have not received nor applied for that media credential and plan to cover the girls swimming finals, you should do so immediately by mailing or faxing your request on company letterhead to Jerry Baker, Sports Information Director, IHSAA, 9150 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.  Fax (317) 575-4244.

Media Heads Up!  The media location for the 2003 girls and boys swimming championships at the Natatorium has been moved to the west side of the arena in the media section used by the NCAA, Big 10 and U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.  You are advised to enter the west concourse, proceed south, and enter the media area between aisles 7-8-9 and 10-11-12.  This is intended to provide the media with a better view of the action in the pool and alleviate the crowded conditions of the past.

Four telephones will be installed in the first two rows of the media section for your use.  A runner will provide updated results as soon as they become available.  A stairwell at the south end of the west concourse will provide quick and easy access to the pool deck.  This stairwell is being designated for use of the media only, so it is mandatory that your media credential be in full view for admittance.

Sports editors and sports directors who plan to have reporters covering this event should make those changes known to their reporters to avoid any untimely delays or confusion.

IHSSCA SWIMMING POLLS

With state tournaments just around the corner, the Carmel Greyhounds continue to lead the way in the most recent Indiana High School Swimming Coaches Association polls.  The defending state champs have held down the top spot since pre-season.
