GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNEY TIPS OFF TONIGHT

The 28th Annual Girls Basketball Tournament Series takes to courts in full force across the state tonight with a field of 381 teams and one common goal – a trip to Conseco Fieldhouse and the state championships on March 8.  The complete pairings lineup can be found on the IHSAA web site at 2003 Girls Basketball Tournament Pairings.

 

Rushville is the state’s all-time leader in sectionals won with 21, the last occurring in 1999.  The Lions will open up play in tonight’s second game at Greensburg.  Bedford North Lawrence ranks second in sectional victories with 20.  The Stars open up play in the Seymour sectional meeting Jennings County in this evening’s nightcap.  For an overview of previous state champions by total log on to Girls Basketball Sectional Champions By Total.  A year-by-year listing of sectional winners in alphabetical order is also available on the web (ihsaa.org).

 

ICGSA GIRLS FINAL BASKETBALL POLL

The final regular season girls ICGSA basketball poll has been released and, as the field heads into the state tournament, the number-one positions of a week ago remain solidified heading into tourney play.  Kokomo (20-0) opens up against Marion (9-11) in 4A.  Alexandria (21-0) faces Delta (20-1) in 3A action.  Heritage Christian (20-1) begins 2A competition with Indianapolis Scecina (5-14) providing the opposition.  And, in class A, North Vermillion (20-0) takes to the court in their opening contest against Riverton Parke (8-11).

 With the 29th Annual Girls Swimming Tournament Series Finals this Friday and Saturday, the defending state champion Carmel Greyhounds continue to lead the way in the most recent Indiana High School Swimming Coaches Association poll. 

 

The boys’ state tourney will dive in on February 20 and the Carmel team still holds down the top spot in this week’s poll.
