GIRLS SOFTBALL TOURNEY SERIES PAIRINGS TOMORROW

Pairings for the 19th Annual IHSAA Girls Softball Tournament Series will be conducted at the IHSAA offices Wednesday, May 14, at 8:00 a.m.  Upon completion, results of that draw will be posted on the IHSAA website under Girls Softball-2003 Tournament Pairings.

 

Clinton Prairie is the defending state champ in Class A and will open up play in the Tri-Central Sectional.  Evansville Memorial is the defending title-holder in Class AA and will begin play as the host of its own sectional.  In Class AAA, Lake Central carries the defending champion honors and will start defense of that title in the Highland Sectional.

 

Sectional tournament play will begin Monday, May 26, and run through Saturday, May 31.  Regional play is slated for Saturday, June 7, with the State Finals on Friday and Saturday, June 13-14.

The 30th Annual Girls Track & Field Tournament Series will get underway with sectional competition next Tuesday, May 20, at 32 sites throughout the state.  For a listing of the field of competitors at each site, log on to 2003 Girls Track & Field Sectional Assignments.

The tournament will move to the regional round on Tuesday, May 27, with the finals on Saturday, June 7.

 

Fort Wayne Northrop, under head coach Tom Knudson, captured its third consecutive state title in 2002.  It was the fifth title overall for the Bruins, including wins in 1981 and 1991.

The 100th Annual Boys Tracks & Field Tournament Series will begin on Thursday, May 22, 2003.

MILESTONES

Mishawaka softball coach Emery Petko recorded his 300th career win as the Cavemen defeated South Bend St. Joseph’s 5-2 in 9 innings.

 

Bremen’s top golfer, Shawn McCormick, and the school’s #2 player, Jarryd Anglin, each had holes-in-one during the Marshall County golf meet at Maxinkukee Country Club in Culver.

 

Brian Dudley of Wapahani picked up his 400th career victory as head baseball coach at Wapahani with a 13-3 win over Union City on May 3.

 

Ashley Seibold, a senior softball player at Huntington North, recently pitched consecutive perfect games for the Lady Vikings.  Her first one occurred on May 6 against Jay County as she struck out 11 batters while facing only 15 in the five inning 10-0 shutout.  She followed that up with another perfect game on May 8, a 10-0 shutout of Wayne High School, again facing the minimum 15 batters in the five inning game.

 

Concord senior Christy Nagy set a single-season school record for stolen bases on May 7, with four steals against NorthWood giving her a new school mark of 36.

 

IHSAA OVERTIME

 

Carroll (Fort Wayne) recently hired ex-Charger three sport standout Star Trahin its new head volleyball coach, replacing Steve Driver, who headed the program the past four years.

 

Andrew Coverdale, offensive coordinator at Louisville Trinity High School, has been named head football coach at Castle replacing John Lidy, who retired with a 209-110 record over the past 30 years.

 

J.D. Hamilton has resigned as assistant athletic director at Indianapolis Cathedral to join the NCAA as assistant director of statistics.

 

Eastern Hancock has selected Mark Reddy as its new athletic director, replacing Carolyn Johnson, who has announced her retirement.

 

Warren Central has announced two changes among its athletic staff.  Gary Cirrincione takes over as boys tennis coach and Jennifer Jensen becomes the new girls cross country coach.

 

Joe Ledbetter has resigned after four seasons as boys’ head basketball coach at Silver Creek.

 

After four seasons on the job, Brad Dickey has announced his resignation as boys’ head basketball coach at Edgewood.

 

Tom Miller has accepted the position of head wrestling coach at Lafayette Jefferson, following 18 years at Tri-Central.  The Bronchos have also hired Gary Christlieb as the new girl’s head basketball coach, replacing Jeff Waldon.

 

Mishawaka wrestling coach Lance Beehler has resigned after four years with the Cavemen, ending a 32-year association with the school.

 

Jennifer Gibson will be leaving the girls head swimming coach post at Fort Wayne Snider after 14 seasons, to join her husband, Dave, who has accepted a position in Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

Lafayette Central Catholic has hired Ryan Gallogly as its new head football coach.  He replaces Chris Jacobs, who resigned after one season with the Knights.

 

Michael Hall has resigned as athletic director at South Newton.  He will continue as head basketball coach.  Mark Mayhew will take over as A.D.
