GIRLS TENNIS TEAM TITLE ON LINE SATURDAY

The 29th Annual Girls Team Tennis Tournament Series moves to the championship round at North Central (Indpls.) High School, 1801 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, on Saturday, June 7, 2003.  Admission is free, with the morning session slated for 10:00 and the afternoon session at 2:00.

Jasper, ranked fourth in the latest poll and in search of its first girls’ title, will meet Zionsville, tied for eighth in the rankings. The Wildcats, making their eighth stop in the state finals, lost to North Central (Indpls.) in the championship match a year ago, 4-1.  The Eagles, making their second state finals appearance, lost to those same Panthers in the semifinals in 2002, 5-0.

Sixteenth ranked Penn will face number-one Carmel in the other semifinal on Saturday.  The Kingsmen were losers to Jasper, 5-0, in last year’s semifinals and are making their eighth state finals appearance.  For Carmel, its trip number-six to the state meet as they go in search of their third championship trophy, having taken home honors in 1989 and 1990 under current head coach, Sharon Rosenburgh

The 22nd Annual Girls Tennis Singles Tournament Series and the 13th Annual Girls Tennis Doubles Tournament Series will continue with regional action on Saturday, June 7, and the state finals on Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, at North Central (Indpls.) High School.

Due to construction at North Central (Indpls.) High School, the singles/doubles regionals will be played at four sites:  Seymour; South Bend Clay; Park Tudor; and Peru.  The lineup is available at 2003 Girls Tennis Singles/Doubles Regionals.

BOYS TEE IT UP IN IHSAA STATE GOLF TOURNEY

Top players from around the state will head to the first tee next Monday, June 9, at 28 sites for the opening salvo in the 67th Annual Boys golf Tournament Series.  Zionsville, with a 599 total, took home team honors in 2001-02, with Richmond finishing second at 607.  Third-ranked Zionsville will compete in the Lawrence Central sectional.

Cole Isban from Mishawaka Marian nabbed individual medalist honors with rounds of 68-73-141.  He returns, looking to become only the third player in IHSAA boys tournament history to claim back-to-back medalist honors.  The Knights are ranked sixth in the weekly poll and will open up play in the South Bend Riley sectional.

Wawasee takes over the top spot in this week’s IHSGCA poll.  The Warriors will be the only top-twenty team in the Warsaw sectional.  Last week’s number-one squad, Richmond, will host its own sectional, also as the only ranked team.

The lineup of sectional sites and participants is on the web at 2003 Boys Golf Tournament Assignments.  Past sectional winners can be located at Boys Golf Sectional Champions.
