253 TEAMS
ENTERED FOR GIRLS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
A field of 253 teams, representing 1,818
athletes, has filed entry lists for the 30th annual IHSAA Girls Golf
Tournament Series to be contested at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in
Among those entered are the Artesians of
Martinsville, nine-time winners of the championship, the most recent of which
occurred in 2000. Western, located in
Russiaville, garnered its first-ever girls golf title last year. The Panthers are ranked number-one again in
this week’s poll and return with a strong squad seeking to defend that title.
Sectional play will begin Friday, September
20, and continue on the following Saturday and Monday. The regionals are slated for September 28,
with the finals on October 4 and 5. Admission is free at all levels of the state
tourney.
WESTERN
The Panthers of Western are again at the top
of the heap in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll. Noblesville, Penn and Lafayette Jefferson
remain three-four-five, while
Fremont and Roncalli were part of a
three-way tie for 20th position last week, but have been replaced by

And then there were none. Going into last Friday’s play, three teams in
the state had not yet been scored upon.
That all changed as North Judson’s shutout streak came to an end when Culver
Military managed a touchdown and point-after.
