A field of 381 teams will begin play at 64 sectional sites March 6 in the 2001 IHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament Series.

The defending state champions are Lafayette Central Catholic in Class A, Westview Class 2A, Brebeuf in Class 3A and Marion in Class 4A.

For the fourth year, champions will be crowned in four classes. The 91^st IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals will be played March 24, with Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis serving as the site for the second time.

Sectional play is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, March 10. The 64 sectional winners -- 16 in each of the four classes -- will advance to regional competition at 32 sites. The regional format calls for a single game on either Tuesday, March 13 or Wednesday, March 14.

The 32 regional winners -- eight in each of four classes -- will advance to semi-state competition on March 17. There will be eight semi-states -- two in each of the four classes. At each semi-state site, two first-round games will be played the morning of 17, followed by the semi-state championship game that night. The eight semi-state champions -- two in each of the four classes -- will advance to the state finals March 24 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

At the state finals, there will be a championship game in each of the four classes, beginning with Class A at 10:30 a.m. and followed immediately by the Class 2A game. After a mid-afternoon break, the second session will begin with the Class 3A championship game at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Class 4A championship game.

*An asterisk indicates the host school for the first round was determined by the draw. At those sectionals, the second-named team in the two first-round games will be the home team. At all 64 sectionals, the semifinals and championship games will be played at the center school site as listed in bold.

Season ticket (all games): $15.

Reserved tickets can be purchased by contacting the IHSAA at 317-846-6601 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. EST. Tickets will go on sale at the participating schools the week of the state finals. Contact participating schools for ticket distribution hours. Tickets also will be available during the week at the Conseco Fieldhouse ticket office. Any remaining tickets will be on sale on game day at Conseco Fieldhouse.
