Media Release of Sept. 4, 2000

2000 football statistical

compilation begins this week

Beginning this week, the IHSAA will initiate the weekly season compilation of state football leaders in six individual categories -- rushing yardage, passing yardage, receiving yardage, scoring, punting, interceptions. The first compilation will include the first three games of the 2000 season.

The IHSAA football statistical compilation began in 1984 and has continued each season with the cooperation of media outlets and coaches.

Media outlets are urged to participate in this cooperative effort by sending the statistics of their players to Jim Russell at the IHSAA via FAX at 317-575-4244 or e-mail to jrussell@ihsaa.org by 9 p.m. each Monday. The IHSAA will compile and issue the compilation each Tuesday afternoon via the media email list. It also will be posted, as in the past, to the IHSAA website under Football/2000 Statistical Leaders.

Because of the Labor Day holiday, the deadline for the first week (only) will be 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The first compilation will be issued on Wednesday.

Minimum standards to be considered for the report each week will be as follows:

Rushing: 140 yards-per-game average.

Passing: 140 yards-per-game average.

Receiving: 60 yards-per-game average.

Scoring: 12 points-per-game average.

Punting: 35 yards per punt, with a minimum of three punts per game (i.e., nine or more punts in three games; 12 or more punts in four games, etc.).

Interceptions: Three or more.

SINGLE-GAME BESTS

In addition to the compilation of season leaders, the IHSAA again will compile a list of single-game individual bests in several categories. Those categories and the minimum reporting standards are as follows:

This list of outstanding individual performances will be posted under Football/2000 Individual Bests at www.ihsaa.org.

To submit, please include the name of the athlete, his school, the opponent and the date of game along with the pertinent information.
