Unbeaten list in football

drops to 24 teams

With two games remaining in the regular season, the list of unbeatens across the state has dwindled to 24 teams. Leading the way at 7-0 are defending state champions Ben Davis (Class 5A), Indianapolis Cathedral (4A) and Fort Wayne Luers (2A). All are ranked No. 1 in their respective class.

The unbeaten list includes:

In 1999, 16 teams finished the regular season with perfect records. The count was 17 in 1998 and 1997. The state’s longest regular-season unbeaten streak belongs to Bloomington South with 44 straight victories dating to Oct. 6, 1995.

Sectional draws to watch include four groups that have two unbeaten teams. In Class 4A, Indianapolis Cathedral and Plainfield are in Sectional 15, while Jasper and Owen Valley are in Sectional 16. In Class 2A, Central Noble and Jimtown are in Sectional 27. In Class A, Hagerstown and Shenandoah are in Sectional 36.
