Beginning next week, the IHSAA will initiate the weekly season compilation of state football leaders in six individual categories -- rushing yardage, passing yardage, receiving yardage, scoring, punting, interceptions. The first compilation will include the first three games of the 2001 season.

The IHSAA football statistical compilation began in 1984 and has continued each season with the cooperation of media outlets and coaches.

Media outlets are urged to participate in this cooperative effort by sending the statistics of their players to Jim Russell at the IHSAA via FAX at 317-575-4244 or e-mail to jrussell@ihsaa.org by 9 p.m. each Monday. The IHSAA will compile and issue the compilation each Tuesday afternoon via the media email list. It also will be posted, as in the past, to the IHSAA website under Football/2001 Statistical Leaders.

Minimum standards to be considered for the report each week will be as follows:

Rushing: 140 yards-per-game average.

Passing: 140 yards-per-game average.

Receiving: 60 yards-per-game average.

Scoring: 12 points-per-game average.

Punting: 35 yards per punt, with a minimum of three punts per game (i.e., nine or more punts in three games; 12 or more punts in four games, etc.).

Interceptions: Three or more.

In addition to the compilation of season leaders, the IHSAA again will compile a list of single-game individual bests in several categories. Those categories and the minimum reporting standards are as follows:

• Rushing yards (275 yards or more in one game)
• Passing yards (275 yards or more in one game)
• Passing percentage (70 percent or better in one game, with a minimum of 10 attempts)
• Passing touchdowns (4 or more touchdown passes in one game)
• Receptions (8 or more receptions in one game)
• Receiving yards (150 yards or more in one game)
• Scoring (30 points or more in one game)
• Interceptions (3 or more interceptions in one game)

Results for each of the 309 high schools that play varsity football are available within the football section on the IHSAA webpage. The schedules are organized alphabetically by class. Scores will be updated weekly throughout the season.

REGULAR-SEASON DOME CREDENTIALS

As in the past, several regular-season high school games will be played at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis during the 2001 season. The IHSAA office DOES NOT handle credential requests for those games. Media outlets should contact the participating schools regarding credentials.

Polls for football and the other seven IHSAA fall sports are updated weekly on the IHSAA website under the respective sport. Polls will be posted as they become available from the respective coaches associations which conduct the polls in their sport.
