STATE SCORING LEADERS REMAIN UNCHANGED
For the second consecutive week, the state's leading scorers in boys and girls basketball remain unchanged as Austin's Anthony Winchester and Wawasee's Shanna Zolman continue to pace the field.
Through five games, Winchester owns a 35.0 average and after a 32-point night in a Dec. 7 victory over Henryville. He leads Tom Kessinger of Elwood, who maintains a 31.2 average through his first seven games. Running third and coming off a 35-point effort is Brownsburg's Jared Reeves at 30.2 points per game. Reeves hit eight three pointers in the Bulldogs' Dec. 8 game against Logansport and has hit 20 treys in his last three games.
Zolman, meanwhile widened the gap between herself and Alexandria freshman Jodi Howell. Zolman had a 31-point game against Goshen to average 33.1 through eight games, while Howell dipped slightly from 30.6 a week ago to 28.8, also through eight games.
The scoring compilations will continue weekly through the state finals in each gender. Deadline for reporting is 5 p.m. each Monday.

Milestones
Rachel Dixon, a junior guard at South Central (Elizabeth), became the second player in school history to score over 1,000 points in her career during a Dec. 8 game against Henryville. Dixon scored 27 points in South Central's victory and trails only Becky Bruner, who scored 1,180 points from 1997 to 2000.
Whitney Espenlaub, a junior from New Harmony, reached a pair of career milestones against Oakland City Wood on December 6. While scoring 25 points, she topped the 1,000 point mark (1,004) and also scored her 100th three-point basket for the Rappites.
Jeff Hamstra, a senior forward at Kankakee Valley, canned a school record 11 three-pointers (15 attempts) in a Dec. 8 game against Kouts. That is the state's best mark so far this year. One night earlier in a game against McCutcheon, Hamstra shot 5-for-6 from behind the arc to finish his two-game stretch 16-for-21.
Brianna Howard, a senior forward for Southwestern (Hanover) poured in 33 points in a victory over Rising Sun on Dec. 8 to become the school's first player to score over 1,500 points. With 1,528 points to her credit, she is not only the all-time leading scorer in school history, but also in Jefferson County history.
Stacy Stevens, a junior guard from Culver Community, scored 31 points, including a state-high nine three pointers (16 attempts) in the Cavaliers victory over Culver Academy on December 5.
