BOYS STATE GOLF FINALS TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

Defending state champion Richmond will return to the 2004 IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals on Tuesday and Wednesday at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin.  The Red Devils survived a tight battle in the Anderson Regional, advancing out of a three-way tie with Yorktown and Anderson at 292by virtue of the fifth player’s score.

Last year’s runner-up, Center Grove, failed to move to state finals competition, after a 308 left them six shots out of a qualifying position.

Four players at Anderson Regional turned in the top rounds of regional competition with 67’s:  Brandon Pike, Huntington North; Josh Baldwin, Noblesville; Eric Barnes, Marion; and Brian Maurer, Richmond.

Former team champions in this year’s field include:  Michigan City (1940); Richmond (1941, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2003); Seymour (1991); Yorktown (1975); and Zionsville (2002).

The complete history of former state champs and runners-up is on-line at IHSAA Boys Golf Champions.

Play will begin Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. for the 1st and 10th tees.  For a complete listing of those tee-times, log on 2004 IHSAA Boys Golf Tee-Times.

Media Note:  No media credential is necessary for coverage of the boys golf championship.  Continuous updates of the state finals will be posted on the IHSAA website.
