IHSAA SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH

THE LEGENDS OF INDIANA GOLF COURSE

IHSAA Commissioner Blake Ress has announced an extension of an agreement with The Legends Of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin to conduct the IHSAA boys and girls state golf championships at that location through 2008-09.

The 27-hole championship course features plenty of sand and water to challenge the best of players and is noted for its playability, service and immaculate course conditions. Added attractions at The Legends include The Niblick, an 18-hole par three course, and a superior practice facility featuring the largest grass hitting area in Indiana.

The readers of The Indiana Business Magazine selected The Legends as "

The  new Gongaware Indiana Junior Golf Academy and the Indiana Golf Association (IGA), the governing body of amateur golf in Indiana as recognized by the United States Golf Association (USGA), is located adjacent to the course.

Ted Bishop has been the General Partner and Director of Golf at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course since the project's inception in 1991. FOOTBALL STATS ON-LINE

The IHSAA has begun its weekly compilation of football statistics in a number of categories.  Those stats, as provided by the schools, are available on the IHSAA website under IHSAA Boys Football.

VOLLEYBALL RANKINGS SIMILAR

Only one discrepancy was noted for the #No.1 ranking in the weekly Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association and Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association weekly volleyball poll.  That occurred in Class 3A, where the IHSVC had slotted Indianapolis Bishop Chatard in the top spot, while the ICGSA had given that honor to Delta, with Chatard placed at No. 2.

Elsewhere, the two polls were in agreement in class 4A (Muncie Central), class 2A (Muncie Burris) and class A (Michigan City Marquette).

HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN STILL LEADER IN GIRLS GOLF POLL

After taking over the #1 position in the weekly ICGSA girls’ golf poll a week ago, Hamilton Southeastern managed to hang on to that top spot in this week’s numbers game.  Western gained a position, moving to 2nd, with Penn dropping a spot to third. Evansville Memorial remained stationary at 4th and Mishawaka moved up one slot to complete the top-five.

Mount Vernon (Fortville) was the only new addition to the weekly rankings, as they returned to the poll at #16.  Leo fell from the top-20 after being ranked in a tie for 19th on September 2.

CARMEL AGAIN ATOP THE  ISCA GIRLS SOCCER POLL

Coming of a pair of victories on Saturday, the Carmel Greyhounds remained atop the weekly Indiana Soccer Coaches Association girls soccer poll for September 8, with North Central (Indpls.) maintaining its spot at No. 2.  Noblesville reached its high water mark on the season, jumping from 5th to 3rd, in front of Fort Wayne Dwenger which climbed from 6th to 4th.  South Bend St. Joseph’s rounded out the top-five, sliding from the No. 3 slot a week ago.

Ben Davis (#20) was the only newcomer added this week, as Castle was shoved aside.

SOME SHUFFLING AMONG TOP-10 IN BOYS SOCCER

Though there was movement among the group, the top-10 teams all remained in that top-10, albeit in different spots in this week’s ISCA boy’ soccer poll.  North Central (Indpls.), Indianapolis Cathedral and Lawrence Central all remained positioned at 1-2-3.  South Bend St. Joseph’s made the leap from 6th to 4th, with Carmel staying at No. 5.

Three squads dropped out of the Top-20, including Evansville Memorial, Bloomington North and Warsaw, while Jasper (#19) and Pike (#20) entered the poll.

SOCCER STATS AVAILABLE

The IHSAA has begun compiling weekly statistics for both girls and boys soccer and that information will be updated on the web each Tuesday following receipt of the material from the schools across the state.  Girls information will be available on the web at 2003 Girls Soccer Stats.  Boys information is on-line at 2003 Boys Soccer Stats.

CROSS COUNTRY POLLS  STILL LED BY COLUMBUS NORTH AND VALPARAISO

It was the same story as a week ago in the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches weekly polls, with the same duo leading the way for both the boys and the girls for the third consecutive week.

In girls cross country, it was still Valparaiso as the poll leader, with Chesterton maintaining his hold on 2nd.  Indianapolis Cathedral and Northridge exchanged positions, with the Irish bumped up to 3rd and the Raiders sliding to 4th.  Fort Wayne Concordia made a huge leap from 11th a week ago to complete the top-five.

The only newcomer in the girls’ top-ten was North Central (Indpls.) at No. 16, with East Noble making an exit from the weekly poll.

The boys’ ratings were still being led by Columbus North.  Carmel made the leap from 3rd  to 2nd , followed by Lawrence North, up from 5th, Fort Wayne Northrop, dropping from the runner-up spot to 4th and Hamilton Southeastern, sliding one position to No. 5.

There were three new teams putting in appearances in the boys’ top-ten:   Northridge (#7); Fort Wayne Concordia (#17); and West Noble (#20).  Portage, Indianapolis Cathedral and Franklin Community were dismissed.
