The 2003 boys’ soccer tournament began yesterday, with girls’ action slated to get underway today.  The IHSAA State Finals will be held on November 1 at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis.

Results, as they are reported by the host schools, are available by clicking on 2003 Boys Soccer Tournament Pairings and 2003 Girls Soccer Tournament Pairings.

Top ranked North Central (Indpls.) will begin play against Speedway in the Park Tudor Sectional of the girls tourney.  Defending state champ Carmel, currently ranked No. 2, opens up against Noblesville in the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional.

FEW CHANGES IN FINAL SOCCER POLLS

With the state tournament now underway, there were few changes in the weekly Indiana Soccer Coaches Association polls.

The top-nine teams remained the same in the girls poll, with Hamilton Southeastern moving into the top-10, dropping Brownsburg to 10th.  Castle (#19) was the only new team added to this week’s girls’ top-20.

On the boys’ side of the ledger, South Bend St. Joseph’s was the frontrunner again this trip, with only minor changes in the field and only one new addition to the top-20, Columbus North (#18).

VALPO AND COLUMBUS NORTH FINISH AS CROSS-COUNTRY LEADERS

For the 8th consecutive week, the leaders in the Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches weekly polls remained the same, with Columbus North and Valparaiso leading their respective packs.

The only change in the boys’ top-five found Carmel and Lawrence North switching positions, with the Greyhounds moving into the runner-up niche.  Franklin Central (#7), Chesterton (#8) and Bloomington North (#10) gained admittance to the top-10. The lone new arrival amongst the top-20 was North Central (Indpls.) (#19).

In girls cross country, the top-10 squads are all the same, with some changes in location. Lawrence North moved up to No. 2, replacing Carmel which fell to 4th.  Chesterton remained in 3rd, while Fort Wayne Concordia remained 5th.

Bloomington South (319) was the only new arrival on the top-20 scene.
