STATE
FINALS FIELD SET FOR FOOTBALL
The 31st Annual IHSAA Football Tournament Series state
finals field has been set, with action this Friday and Saturday, November 28-29
at the RCA Dome in
A pair of champions are still alive and defending their
titles. Roncalli, a six-time state
champion, got by East Central on Friday and plays East Noble in the 4A title
contest. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, also with six championship trophies, was a winner
over Heritage Hills on Saturday and advances to meet NorthWood
in 3A competition
Defending Class 5A champion Ben Davis, 2002 Class A titleholder Southwood and last year’s Class 2A winner, Fort Wayne
Bishop Luers, were all eliminated earlier in the
tourney.
The combined record of the remaining 10 teams in the state
tournament is 125 – 14 (.899) and represents 22 previous state champions.
The “southern” teams will be listed as the home teams on the
scoreboard at the RCA Dome, though, by virtue of a coin toss at the State
Finals Meeting at the IHSAA offices on Monday, Seeger,
Harding, Indianapolis Chatard, Roncalli
and Penn will all wear dark jerseys.
