BRIAN BOHNE OF THE FERDINAND NEWS AND SPENCER COUNTY LEADER

SELECTED AS DISTRICT III MEDIA SERVICE AWARD WINNER

Brian Bohne, Sports Editor for The Ferdinand News in Ferdinand, Indiana and Spencer County Leader in Dale, Indiana, has been selected as the 2003-2004 recipient of the District III IHSAA Distinguished Media Service Award.

A graduate of Forest Park High School and Indiana University-Southeast, Brian joined The Ferdinand News and Spencer County Leader in 1994, advancing to the position of Sports Editor in 1996. He has acquired his BA in Speech Communication and an AS in Journalism.

His previous accolades include recognition from the Hoosier State Press Association, where he captured honors for Best Sports Section and Best Sports Event coverage. He was presented the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Media Award in 1997, as well as the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Virgil Sweet Distinguished Service Award in 2001.

He is active in high school sports coverage throughout southern Indiana, especially focusing on Dubois and Spencer counties, and has reported on IHSAA state championships in softball, basketball, football and volleyball involving teams from those areas.

Brian will be honored on Friday, January 23, 2004 in a special ceremony at half-time of the Forest Park vs. Jasper boys’ basketball game, to be played at Forest Park. Mr. Blake Ress, IHSAA Commissioner, will be on hand for the presentation.

On behalf of its 396 member schools, the Indiana High School Athletic Association is pleased to salute Brian Bohne and recognize his dedicated service to high school athletics in the state of Indiana by presenting him with the District III 2003-2004 Distinguished Media Service Award.
