JULIE JOHNSON RECEIVES NFHS AWARD

Julie Johnson has been awarded the 2004 NFHS Officials Citation Award from the National Federation of State High School Associations.

This is the highest honor awarded by the NFHS Officials Association and goes to persons deemed to have contributed to the associations at the highest level. Only one citation may be awarded each year. Each state may nominate one Citation nominee. NFHS Citations are presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the NFHS and/or other national organizations that have had an impact on high school activities. This nominee need not be an NFHS Officials Association member. Among the factors that may be considered are the following: 1) a longstanding and distinguished record of promoting officiating at the local and state level; 2) recognition among their colleagues for excellence; 3) approval from the state association executive officer.

Johnson, who resides in Alexandria, Indiana, has been involved in interscholastic officiating in volleyball, baseball, softball and basketball for some 27 years.  She has officiated in the softball state tournament seven times and the volleyball state competition ten times during her career.

Through her involvement with the Indiana High School Athletic Association, she has served as a volleyball rules interpreter for six years and still serves the IHSAA in the training of officials.

On the national level, she has worked 13 NCAA National Championships-including the Women’s College World Series, the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and was a member of the NFHS Softball Rules Committee and is active in their softball officials training program.
