BOYS GOLF STATE FINALS BEGIN TUESDAY

A total of 135 golfers will converge on The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin as the 69th Annual IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals get underway on Tuesday, June 14. Second round play concludes the next day.

 

Twenty-one teams advanced five golfers each and 30 golfers have advanced without their teams to the event which is in its fifth year at the current site. Participants will tee off the Middle 9 course and the Road 9 course beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Those teams and individuals that make the cut will return for a second day on Wednesday with the first group again starting at 8 a.m. The first round tee times and pairings that were originally posted to the IHSAA website Saturday afternoon for revised Saturday evening with an updated version.

 

Richmond is the top returning team from 2004. The five-time state champion Red Devils return four of their five golfers from last year’s state runner-up team but placed third via the fifth player’s score during the regional at The Players Club in Muncie last week.

 

Other teams returning from 2004 are Chesterton, Columbus North, Concord, Floyd Central, Harrison (West Lafayette), Maconaquah, Michigan City and Warsaw. Defending state champion Zionsville did not qualify for its regional.

 

Brownsburg senior Andy WInings who played in a Franklin Community uniform last year, is the top returning player from last year’s state finals. His 69-73-142 earned him a third place finish in 2004. Also back from the top five is Columbus North senior Kevin Sasena who tied for fourth with a 72-72-144. Both players advanced with their team.

 

Fans are invited to view the progress of the state finals by visiting www.golfstat.com. The IHSAA will post the hole-by-hole scores for every player throughout the two days.

When: Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15; First group tees off at 8 a.m. each day.

Advancement from Round 1 to Round 2:

1.   Top nine teams plus;

2.   Any team within 12 strokes of the lead after Round 1 plus;

3.   Top nine individuals, excluding those individuals who advance with a team plus;

4.   Any individual within four strokes of the lead after Round 1.

5.   Teams tied for ninth place and individuals tied for ninth place may advance to the final round.

6.   Teams advancing to the final round may substitute a player/s other than the five who participated in Round 1 by notifying the tourney director before play begins for Round 2.

Media Information

 

Media Hosts – Sports Information Director Jason Wille, Communications Director Joe Gentry along with Mike Wilson and Travis Tranbarger from the IHSAA staff will on hand to assist in your coverage.

 

Media Credentials: The 2004-05 IHSAA State Finals Media Credential (a black laminated pass) will allow for admission. Those outlets needing credentials should fax a request immediately to Sports Information Director Jason Wille at 317-575-4244. Approved requests will be available for pickup at the team check-in table located between the clubhouse and the cart barn. A limited amount of riding carts will be available to members of the media on a first-come, first served basis. Your credential is necessary for cart rental. Please check in at the clubhouse for details. No carts will be issued to the general public.

 

Services – As in previous years, working space and pool phones will be available for filing from the cart barn. Copies of the official program including scorecards also will be available. Tee-times and pairings for the Wednesday’s second round will be posted to the IHSAA website as soon as possible on Tuesday evening. As was used for last year’s state finals and the girls championships last September, the IHSAA, with the help of Golfstat.com, will post the scorecard of each individual participating in the state finals as the event progresses both days.
