GIRLS GOLF SEASON UNDERWAY

The 2004 IHSAA girls golf campaign is now officially way.  Each school is allowed to participate in 18 contests throughout the regular season, with the state tournament scheduled for sectional play to begin September 17, 2004.  The state finals will be contested on October 1-2 at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin.

 

FOOTBALL PRACTICE BEGINS

Pre-season practice has begun for the 2004 IHSAA football season, with full contact permitted on Wednesday, August 4.  The first regular season games are permitted on Friday, August 20.  Teams may play nine regular season games, with the state tournament scheduled to kickoff on October 22.

 

FOOTBALL SCHEDULES ON-LINE

With the 2004 IHSAA football season less than two weeks away, schedules for the upcoming campaign are now available on the IHSAA website at 2004 IHSAA Football Schedules.

 

BOYS TENNIS BEGINS PREPARATION FOR 2004

The 2004 IHSAA boys’ tennis season took to the courts around the state on Monday, August 2, the first permissible date for practice.  With the first serve of regular season set for August 16, teams may participate in 14 contests, plus a pair of tournaments, prior to the start of the state tourney on September 30.

 

CROSS COUNTRY IN PREPARATION MODE

Practice is now officially underway for boys and girls cross country teams throughout Indiana.  The first contest for each team, both boys and girls, is slated for August 16 and 14 regular season meets are permitted, leading up to state tournament competition on October 12.

 

SOCCER FIELDS BUSY STATEWIDE

The 2004 IHSAA boys and girls soccer teams have begun practice, with the first official games of the season scheduled for August 16.  Teams may play 16 game, without participating in a regular season tournament, or 14 games and participe in one tourney.  The state tournaments will begin on October 11 for the girls and October 12 for the boys.

 

START DATE FOR VOLLEYBALL HAS ARRIVED

Monday, August 2, signaled the beginning of the 2004 volleyball campaign, with practice starting all across the state.  Teams are allowed 25 games and two tournaments during the course of the season, which begins on August 16.  The state tournament gets underway on October 21.

 

IHSAA OVERTIME

Correction: Mike McMillen remains as athletic director at Fort Wayne Northrop, contrary to reports in a previous release. 

 

Lonnie Chamberlain has resigned as wrestling coach at New Palestine.

 

After 32 years in coaching, Dan LePage has announced his resignation after four seasons as girls basketball coach at Delphi.

 

Don Tincher, longtime sports writer for the Richmond Palladium-Item, has accepted the position of sports information director at Earlham College.

 

Wapahani has hired Tim Lyon as its volleyball coach.  He succeeds Mike Lingenfelter, who resigned this summer.

 

Brian Blondell has been selected as the new baseball coach at South Bend Riley, replacing Ed Faulhaber, who resigned in June.

 

Oak Hill has named Todd Law as its new girls basketball coach and Paige Brunner as the boys and girls cross country coach.  They replace Mike McDivitt,  who had coached all three sports, and now takes over as assistant principal at the school.

 

Gregg Minegar has submitted his resignation as baseball coach at Mishawaka.  He was with the Cavemen for 21 seasons and has 302 career victories.

 

JoJo Robertson has signed on to coach the West Lafayette girls golf team.  She replaces Traci Terrell, who resigned earlier this summer.

 

Blue River Valley has hired Greg Granger as the school’s new athletic director.  He replaces Gary Brown.

 

At Alexandria, Matt Hensley replaces Ron Garner in the AD position.

 

Patti Doeltz takes over as athletic director at Monroe Central, replacing Adrian Moulton, who is now the principal at the school.
